The Georgia Court of Appeals said that it will grant former President Donald Trump a chance to appeal a ruling to keep District Attorney Fani Willis on the criminal election interference case.

Lawyers for the defendants accused Willis of misconduct, claiming that she benefited financially from appointing Nathan Wade as the lead attorney on the case. Wade and Willis were involved in a romantic relationship at the time.

In March, Judge Scott McAfee ruled that there was a "significant appearance of impropriety that infects the current structure of the prosecution team" and decided that either Willis or Wade had to resign.

Wade subsequently stepped down as lead prosecutor on the case.

A court date to hear the appeal has not been set.

"President Trump looks forward to presenting interlocutory arguments to the Georgia Court of Appeals as to why the case should be dismissed, and Fulton County DA Willis should be disqualified for her misconduct in this unjustified, unwarranted political persecution," Trump's lawyer, Steve Sadow, said in a statement.
