12 Injured, 3 Detained In South Carolina Mall Shooting

Three individuals have been detained in connection to a shooting at a South Carolina mall that left 12 people injured.

Columbia Police Chief W.H. 'Skip' Holbrook confirmed at least three people were seen holding weapons prior to the incident during a press conference on Saturday (April 16) afternoon via WIS TV.

Holbook said one of the individuals is believed to have fired a weapon, but police are still working to determine details.

Holbook said 10 of the 12 victims injured experienced gunshot woulds while two others were injured in a stampede.

Eight of the gunshot victims were transported to the local hospitals, while the two were self-reported.

Two gunshot victims are in critical, but stable condition, while the other eight are in stable condition.

Multiple people were reportedly injured during a shooting at a Columbia, South Carolina mall on Saturday (April 16), CNN reports.

The incident took place at Columbiana Centre Mall, which is located about 10 miles from downtown Columbia.

Columbia Police said the extent of the victims' injuries has yet to be determined as of Saturday afternoon. The department was evacuating patrons from the mall while assessing the scene, CNN local affiliate WIS TV confirmed.

"Update: We have confirmed that people have been injured during the incident — they are receiving medical attention. The extent of injuries unknown at this time. #ColumbiaPDSC officers have been evacuating the mall and getting people to safety," the Columbia Police Department tweeted Saturday afternoon. "For those people still inside the mall, you can call 9-1-1 or 803-252-2911 and tell the dispatchers your location. Dispatchers will notify law enforcement immediately. Again, multiple law enforcement agencies/ officers are on scene to assist #ColumbiaPDSC."

The mall's main entrance on Harbison Boulevard was closed, as were parts of I-26 West near the Harbison area, amid the police presence at the scene.

The department confirmed it responded to a shots fired report at Columbia Centre just before 2:30 p.m. local time.
