Athens Christmas Events | December 11th

Both of these events will take place in Athens tonight (December 11th)!

The Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Committee Christmas Tree Lighting and Bicycle/Toy Giveaway will be at 5 p.m. at the Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park on Westview off Hine Street. The committee will light the park tree, provide snacks, and give away gifts and bicycles. This is for about 150 children recommended by the Boys and Girls Club and the community. Each child receives a gift. As the gifts are distributed by age group, the committee draws a name and that child wins a bicycle. Thanks to East Limestone Marching Band's Toy Drive and other sponsors, the committee will give away over 20 bikes this year. Santa will also arrive by fire truck.

Shop With A Firefighter will be at 5 p.m. at Walmart in Athens. Walmart Corporate has given permission for media to cover the event. Please check in at the front entrance where the firefighters will be gathered (on the west side entrance). I cannot be there as I will be at the event listed below, so I ask that you please remember you must get permission from parents before using a child's image or name. Thanks to Walmart and other corporate sponsors, Athens Fire and Rescue Auxiliary is providing Christmas to 64 children from city and county schools. These are children recommended by the school counselors. Each child will receive $140 each. Half can be spent on necessities, such as clothing and toiletries and half can be spent on toys or other items.
