Per Decatur Animal Services - - - LANGUAGE OF THE DOGS’ TAIL: Caution: Not all wags are happy!!! There are many wags to the tail. 1. Broad wags at a moderate pace does mean “happy” and “like you”. 2. Small side to side wags at a fast pace means “excited.” 3. Slow wags with the head lowered means that the dog is “insecure” and trying to figure things out. 4. Some Breeds: Tail up high or curbed over the back with short, fast wags means “Give me Space.” This is, of course, not true of the breeds that have naturally docked tails or tails that are naturally curved. Along with the tail are many other signs that you need to look at to decipher what a dog is trying to communicate to you.
